Mad for makeup

‘A smile is the best make-up a girl can wear’.

I agree with this quote but make-up can certainly help on those 7am winter mornings when getting up for work is the last thing you want to do.

On my recent trip to the States, I went a little mad in Sephora, I say a little because everything I bought was either a repurchase of a product I loved or something that was 100% researched and thought about before the credit card came out!

sephora masks

My skin had taken a bit of a beating from all the travelling and air con on the planes so first off was a couple of these Sephora face masks which I have heard only good things about and at just 6 dollars each you can’t go wrong. There are eight different fibre sheet masks, all of which are infused with different ingredients to target any skin problem imaginable. I bought some of the Lotus masks to moisturise and sooth my skin. It did exactly what is says on the tin. My skin felt rejuvenated and fresh and my makeup went on really well that night.  You can buy them HERE

Next up was a repurchase. Last year I was really struggling to find a good night time moisturiser that suited my skin. I started to see this everywhere, literally each magazine I bought was hailing this as the new ‘hero’ product which I never buy into. Then it turned out my sister had bought this on one of her trips to London, she raved about it and gave me some to try. I have not looked back since and added the eye cream to my Kiehl’s collection. The eye cream is just as good as the midnight recovery. Shop the midnight recovery HERE Shop the eyecream HERE

Kiehls also have a shop in Dundrum Shopping Centre.

There really are no words for this wonder product, another repurchase. I put this on about 30 minutes after my mosteriser and before my foundation. The results are amazing, it makes my skin looks dewy and refreshed and my makeup glides on. If you want to try this product as it is expensive enough, Mac do a 30 ml travel version which you can buy HERE or the 50 ml HERE

Pippa O’ Connor uses Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk so I have been lusting after this foundation for a while now. I have normal skin which can sometimes be dry, so this was a perfect choice for me as coverage is on the light side but it is buildable at the same time. Pros of this foundation is you avoid the caked on makeup look, I think it is very natural which I love for day time. If it’s gorgeous, glowy and radiant skin you’re after, then this is the foundation for you. Another pro is that it comes in a good variety of shades. The only con for me is the price at 45 euro. You can shop this HERE

setting spray

I remember being quite dubious about trying setting spray in the first place, I mean you go to all that bother to set your foundation with powder and then you spray a liquid on top? Now, however I am hooked and this is my new favourite setting spray. If you want your foundation to stay on all day or night, or if you have oily skin, here is your new best friend. Just be careful to spray it before you do any eye makeup! Shop it HERE

This was a product I wanted to try because all the beauty bloggers I follow use it, maybe I am a sheep afterall. It goes on creamy but dries to an intense finish. Can be worn as an eyeshadow itself but I have bought it for use as a primer and a transition colour. It is amazing, gone are the days of the dreaded flakey eyeshadow that creases on my lid. You can buy it HERE

I was pleasantly surprised at how reasonably priced this Anastasia Contour Palette was. I thought it would be more expensive than it’s $40 price tag. I have yet to use this but am going out tomorrow night with my friends so watch this space. You can buy it HERE

Oh my Lord, this Becca shimmering skin perfector in ‘moonstone’ is the most divine cream highlighter I have ever used. You have to get your hands on this product. I think it’s available in Space Nk Grafton Street or you can shop it HERE

I love this Mac lipstick in ‘Whirl’ which gained cult status when Kylie Jenner started wearing it. The only negative thing I will say about it is because it is a matte lipstick, it is quite drying. So best to put on your lip balm before you apply this to condition your lips. I bought it in a lipstick but it only seems to be available in a lip pencil online which you can buy HERE

Urban Decay Heavy Metal eyeliner in ‘Midnight Cowboy’. I have several of these in different colours. The makeup artist in Sephora that was helping me had really similar colouring to mine and was wearing this over her eyeshadow so I just had to have it. I haven’t used this as an eyeliner yet, I have just been applying a thin layer over my brown and gold eyeshadows for nighttime wear. You can shop it HERE

Another Anastasia product, this dipbrow pomade really is the answer to perfect brows in just one easy step. This tinted creamy formula is water proof and smudge proof. The colour I went for is soft brown and I love it. You can buy it HERE

And that was my Sephora haul, as well as some Sephora makeup brushes. I managed to spend a good bit but because it wasn’t impulse buying, I was very happy with what I got. I definitely recommend getting testers of products before you invest as each person’s skin is so different.

Will you be buying any of these products or are they already in your kit?

Happy shopping,

Fashionably yours,
