Top Products 2018

Happy New Year to all my readers, I am currently beached on the couch after afternoon tea in Adare Manor, it was delicious! My husband volunteered to do the groceries, possibly in an attempt to stop me clothes shopping in Dunnes as I buy food. One of my 2019 resolutions is to buy less, and buy more quality items. I’ve definitely become more conscious of slow fashion and wearing what I have already more. Did you make any resolutions this January?

Anyway, onto some products that really worked for me in 2018 and will be repurchased in 2019.

The famous IT Cosmetics CC cream, I bought this on honeymoon over the summer, hence the dark colour. I’m going to pick up a more suitable shade for my winter, paler skin. It’s available in Arnotts now and BT online. I like it because it doesn’t cause my skin to breakout, it’s good coverage and it’s buildable if you want a more full coverage look.

Charlotte Tilbury Cheek to Chic, if you follow along on my Instagram page – Womenwhowearblack_blog, you’ll know I’m not a massive Charlotte Tilbury fan, I find it a bit hit and miss. However, I really like this. It’s a bronzer and blush in one, so the convenience alone is a winner for me. I find the colour of this particular one suits my skin type. There are a few to pick from.

I think I’ve spoken about this setting powder before. It’s translucent so won’t change your foundation colour, it doesn’t settle in your fine lines and it helps your makeup stay put. Buy the travel size if you’re unsure of it.

In my quest to find the perfect tan, that DOESN’T SMELL, I’ve seen the good, the bad and the ugly. This is AMAZING. When I sprayed it on first, it was like summer in a bottle, you know the way a smell can bring you back, this brought me right back to holiday mode. It drys almost instantly, which is a perk for me, I don’t apply tan every week so if I’ve forgotten an occasion, I can put this on and head out the door.

My holy grail product when I breakout. This is really great, it dries out the spot (and surrounding skin, so apply with a cotton bud to be more precise) and I’m never without it.

Last but not least is this Chanel lip balm. With all the air conditioning, heat, drink over Christmas, my lips were dry and chapped and would generally be dry anyway. I’ve tried everything and this is the one I’ve found to be the most soothing and nourishing.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from following beauty bloggers and makeup artists, it’s that the most important part of your makeup application starts with your skin prep beforehand.

Now I’ve written a whole piece on my skincare journey which I’ll link here for you, and I feel that side of things is finally under control.

So then, I set about finding the perfect primer to add that iridescent glow to my skin as my skin is dry I suppose. Finding the perfect primer didn’t happen overnight for me, as;

  1. There’s SO many to pick from
  2. They are expensive
  3. I’m buying these myself
  4. You need time to really test a product

Anyway, I’ve narrowed it down to the four I’ve used the most over the last year, which are mostly meant to prime and add highlight.

You can see three of them are a golden shade/tone and one is a more pearly colour but does actually come in a rose gold tone too.

Charlotte Tilbury Wonder Glow €49

I was drawn to this because Charlotte used it on Amal Clooney for her wedding day look, say no more, SOLD.

Charlotte said you can use this as a primer, or wear it on it’s own. Well I most certainly could not use this on it’s own as it does nothing for my skin. It leaves a kind of half a**** glow and that’s about it. Not the first time I’ve been underwhelmed by her products. Swipe up HERE if you’re dying to try it.

Penney’s PS Range Strobing Cream €4

(Available in rose gold too)

Said to be a dupe for Mac’s Strobe Cream, I was dubious, am I the only one who thinks a dupe never lives up to the original? Anyway, I couldn’t have been more wrong. I love this product for it’s price point and also for the nice glow it adds to my face. I wouldn’t say this does much to my skin other than gives me a dewy look but that’s all it proclaims to do I suppose! I use this mixed in with foundation every day for work. Available in most Penney’s stores.

Laura Mercier Radiance Primer €36

(Available in other formulas also such as hydrating etc)

As you can see, this has been well used and there’s a reason why, it is AMAZING. A little goes a long way, and it comes out of the tube quite quickly, well mine did anyway, so be careful. It gives such a healthy glow to your skin, and primes too!

If you’ve got oily skin, try a different consistency of this primer. Go into the Laura Mercier counter and ask the girls to try one of them out on you. I find Laura Mercier and Nars to be my main brands to buy from in the last few years. They’re not greasy and they don’t make my skin break out. Swipe up HERE to buy.

Becca Backlight Primer about €38

Last, but by no means least is Becca back light primer which I got in New York or France in Sephora.

I think I tried this because there was a lot of hype on YouTube from the American bloggers about it.

I do like it a lot, but it doesn’t fully blow me away like the Laura one. If you’re in Sephora, ask the girls to pop some on, maybe it will work better on your skin than mine, and it smells divine. Swipe up HERE to buy.

So there you have it, any questions, leave them below 👇 I’d love to be a real beauty blogger and get some comments or questions on this blogpost.

Russian Lashes

Hey ladies,

Long time no post so I decided to come back with a good one. I’ve gotten so many questions from friends and colleagues since I got my semi permanent Russian lashes done a few days ago and I figured it might be something you all would like to hear about. Maybe a handy gift voucher idea for a friend!

In the interest of transparency, I just want to let you know I paid for this service myself and booked with the salon based on recommendations from my friends. Details of salon and prices listed below!

One main reason I decided to get them done is because I just don’t like mascara. It makes my eyes weep and also makes them feel really heavy. I could possibly be allergic to ALL the ones I’ve tried thus far. The only one I’ve found that doesn’t aggravate them is this one by Too Faced linked HERE.

Anyway, back to details on the lashes. The salon I went to is called Enchant, which is owned by local Limerick business woman, Miriam Costello. Enchant Salon 061 337333. And I’ll just link their Facebook page HERE. The process took roughly an hour and a half, and was pain and hassle free. Miriam herself did mine. She was so professional and really nice too. The service costs €70 with top ups costing €50. You should get a month out of them but this depends on your aftercare. Make sure you use oil free eye makeup remover such as this inexpensive one HERE

My verdict; for the first few hours I definitely found it a tad strange to have these individual eyelashes on, however, they are featherweight and after that initial few hours was over, I didn’t and don’t notice them at all. They look amazingly natural, (depending on what ones you choose in consultation with Miriam) and I don’t need feel the need to use eyeliner or eyeshadow for day to day wear with them on. Only problem is, they could become addictive!

I hope this post helps anyone who’s thinking of getting Russian eyelashes and if you’re in the Limerick area, I 100% recommend Enchant Salon. My whole experience with them was so positive-my next appointment is already booked in.

Any questions, leave them below and I’ll do my best to answer.

Fashionably yours,

***You need to get a patch test done beforehand to make sure you’re not allergic to the glue they use. If you’re interested in these lashes for the festive season, I’d suggest ringing first thing tomorrow morning as they’re an incredibly popular salon. Their number is; 061 337333.

The Cari’s Closet Edit

I think most of us fashion lovers are following the power house that is Cari’s Closet on Instagram and/or Facebook

‘Cari’s Closet began as a way to bring top designer dresses and cutting edge fashions to Ireland in a way that is affordable and easy’ and it has certainly lived up to that aim.

The boutique has three shops in Dublin, Galway and Cork. They also have a worldwide shipping service.

Ahead of their new website which has now launched they asked me to pick my favourite pieces and looks to share with my followers.

I think this white dress is elegance and simplicity defined! This would be an ideal choice for the day after a wedding for any bride to be. Then it would also work with a tan on honeymoon. It’s available in pink too. I got this and I’m in love!

First up with accessories is this gorgeous GG designer looking belt. When it comes to certain accessories, I’m just not willing to invest a lot of money into them. I think this one is priced well. Shop here

Next is this easy to wear apricot top which is so me and can be worn for lunch with girlfriends or dinner and cocktails.

Top (also available in black)

Blush pink heels will go with both daytime and nighttime looks. Make your wardrobe work overtime for you.

Well there are no words for this showstopper! The colours are DIVINE and it has a real designer look. Shop the dress here (I’m also thinking of the upcoming party season with this dress)

No blog post of mine would be complete without heels and these are extra chic.

Another showstopper for any occasion is this lavender beauty Pair with the black heels above or these studded nude ones.

Shop these studded nude heels here

If you’re like me and love your comfortable clothes after work, then this star print loungewear is just for you and a more fashionable alternative to pjs! Yes please.

I love the grey colour of this long dress and the embellishment is nice without being over the top. I could see myself wearing this to a wedding abroad or (and I know many brides to be follow me) this would be a fabulous bridesmaid dress.

Speaking of bridesmaid dresses, these multiway dresses are a great way to make sure all your bridesmaids feel entirely comfortable on your big day. They will suit every figure. They are available in charcoal (pictured) magenta, champagne and coral to name a few colours.

Statement earrings are the easiest way to add umph to your wardrobe and these will also work for autumn/winter with a little black dress or jumpsuit.

And there you have it, my top pieces from Irish boutique, Cari’s Closet.

Happy shopping,

My Biofresh Skincare Journey

This has been a highly requested blog post since I first chatted about my skin on Facebook a few weeks ago. And really, to begin talking about how amazing my journey with biofresh products has been thus far, I must first look back to acumax…….Now, what can I say?

  • Firstly, I’m disappointed with myself to have followed so blindly the opinion of others.  I fell hook, line and sinker for the acumax craze.
  • Acumax is EXPENSIVE and took a few months to kick in (for me anyway)
  • Then I had a dream period where my skin was amazing for a month or so.
  • One really busy week, I realised I had ran out of acumax, I normally had another packet ready to start as the previous one ended.
  • That week was frightening, my skin completely turned on me, every time I passed a mirror, I had a new spot, some were boils, and some were in places I never before had spots.
  • I bought two more packs of acumax but my skin never fully recovered and spots broke through even though I was taking 3/4 tablets a day.

So I put a post up on Facebook looking for advice and that’s where Catherine from Biofresh came in. She is so, so lovely, and could not have been more helpful. Myself and Catherine chatted over and back, and I sent her some pictures of my skin.

Before (when I was taking Acumax) and After (using Biofresh natural products)

Catherine recommended a new skincare routine that brought me completely back to basics! A few days later, I received the most generous package from her. I haven’t looked back since.

My new Biofresh Skincare routine;

Spray a cotton pad with rose water which is a natural antiseptic so to speak and squirt some cleansing milk on too. This cleans your face and your eye makeup too.

You’ve all heard of the famous Acne Out and this truly is a wonder product. Put a few drops on a cotton pad and use on any areas where breakouts have occurred. For me, the worst area was my chin.

Finish with probiotic cream.

In the morning, I freshen my skin with the rose water and use the mosteriser again. Then it’s onto the Ballapierre mineral makeup.

This is the cherry on top for me, the Bellapierre mineral makeup is the only 100% natural mineral makeup on the market! It’s a multi tasking product and gives you concealer, spf, foundation and setting powder all in one. I’m really loving this, it has great staying powder and feels light on my skin. I’m into more of a natural makeup look. Catherine reminded me to use a clean brush when I started using the Bellapierre and my skin has started to come back to normal again.

Having bad skin can really affect you and your confidence so I’m extremely grateful to Catherine for getting mine back on track. I highly recommend calling into the girls if you’re living in Dublin or near Dublin. If not, send Catherine a picture as I did on their Facebook page and she will do her utmost to help you.

Otherwise, leave a comment below, and I’ll help you out in any way also.

While some may see the beauty and benefit of leaving their makeup strewn around like this, to me it’s just a pile waiting to be organised and tidied away.

However, if you’re like me and forget half the impulse purchases you’ve made having watched Tara Makeup or Pippa O’ Connor’s Snapchat, then may I present the solution? HerClutterBox

The beauty of HerClutterBox is that you’re getting the best of both worlds, you can organise to your heart’s content AND still see everything you have! What’s not to love?

‘At HerClutterBox we specialise in the design & manufacture of a high end acrylic make-up organiser called a ‘ClutterBox’. Our ‘ClutterBoxes’ are manufactured using high grade durable acrylic and are built to last.’

I’m a firm believer of buying the best you can afford be it with shoes, clothes or in this case, makeup storage. And as it says above, given that these clutterboxes are made using the best durable acrylic, they’re something that you will have forever. I bought one for my sister a few years ago and it is still going strong. So not only are you investing your money in something which looks great, but it’s practical too.

Also the bottom drawer of the clutterbox is deeper than the rest, so you can actually store a ghd or hair accessories in that space.

HerClutterBox HQ are based in Dublin and deliver worldwide.

For more information, leave a comment below or contact the company at;

It’s my genuine opinion that this is an amazing present for yourself, your mom, your best friend or sister, and something that will be used forever.

Happy shopping,
